๐ผ 1. Fragrance Components
This is the key part — the orange scent.
Essential Oils / Citrus Extracts
Many orange air fresheners use orange essential oil (from citrus peel) for natural citrus notes.
Synthetic Aroma Chemicals
Fragrance houses often blend hundreds of chemicals to mimic the fresh, tangy orange aroma. These can include:
Limonene
Citral
Linalool
Other citrus esters or aldehydes
Fragrance is usually listed simply as “Fragrance” on labels, because the exact mix is a trade secret.
๐ง 2. Solvents / Carriers
These dissolve the fragrance and help it disperse:
Alcohols (e.g., ethanol) — common in sprays
Propylene Glycol or Dipropylene Glycol — common in gels and liquids
Water — in less concentrated sprays or herbal blends
These help carry and release the scent into the air.
๐ 3. Propellants (for Aerosols)
If the orange air freshener is an aerosol spray:
Propellants like butane, propane, isobutane push the liquid out as a fine mist.
These are pressurized and flammable — so follow label safety.
๐งด 4. Additives & Stabilizers
These improve performance and shelf life:
Surfactants — help fragrance blend
Stabilizers/antioxidants — keep the fragrance stable
Preservatives — prevent microbial growth in liquid formulas
These ingredients are usually in small amounts but help keep the product working well over time.
